Participants learn how to achieve long-term goals, build relationships while addressing conflict and plan for board assessment. This highly interactive session will help presidents-elect take on their new position with confidence.

The first months of a president’s term is a critical time to establish themselves in their new role, and this course helps them prepare for the year ahead. Through self-reflection, group discussion, activities, and action planning, new presidents will develop their plan for success.

The School of Hard Knocks course takes experienced volunteers on a deeper dive of key sustainability drivers for their organization. The sustainability drivers that will be focused on in this course are Member Recruitment and Retention, Member Engagement, Finance, Technology and Risk Management. Volunteer leaders will learn how to develop strategies for effective board and committee recruitment, including identifying and engaging diverse candidates. This course will engage board leaders in developing a comprehensive CEO succession plan, work through a crisis plan, as well as evaluating individual director and whole board performance.
